Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 (e.g. 82.64.12.30) is the legacy format, running out of addresses. IPv6 (e.g. 2a01:cb19:… ) is the modern format with almost unlimited addressing. Depending on your ISP and network, you may have one, the other, or both. The tool shows the version actually used to reach the detection services.

Is the displayed location my exact position?

No. It is an estimate based on geolocating your IP address (city or region of your operator's point of presence). It can be off by tens of kilometres, especially on 4G/5G or behind a VPN. Only phone GPS geolocation, with your permission, gives a precise position — and this tool never asks for it.

Why does my IP sometimes change?

Most consumer plans use dynamic IPs: your ISP assigns a new one each time the router reconnects, sometimes every day. A fixed IP is usually a business option. Restarting your router is often enough to get a new one.

How do I check that my VPN works?

Note your IP and country without the VPN, turn the VPN on, then click “Reveal my IP” again. If the address and country changed to those of the VPN server, the tunnel is active. Note: this checks the IP, not the absence of DNS/WebRTC leaks — no web tool alone can guarantee that.

Is my data sent to Volade?

No. Device info is read locally in your browser and never leaves it. Only the “Reveal my IP” step contacts third-party public services (ipify for the address, ipwho.is for the estimated location), and only when you click. No Volade relay, no server storage.

Why do some values show “—”?

Because your browser deliberately refuses to expose them: exact memory, GPU model, font list, battery status. This protects your privacy, it is not a bug. We show “—” rather than an invented value.

Can I copy my user agent for a bug report?

Yes: the “Copy the report” button includes the full user agent, browser, OS, resolution and IP (if revealed). Paste it into your support ticket — it is exactly what developers need to reproduce a display issue.

Does the tool work without JavaScript?

No: reading browser, screen and GPU information requires JavaScript running locally. Without JavaScript, the page text stays readable but values cannot be computed.

What is my IP: much more than an address

Knowing your public IP address means knowing the identity the whole Internet sees: it is what sites, your ISP and your contacts see. The Volade tool shows it in one click, in IPv4 or IPv6 depending on your connection, with the provider, the ASN and an estimated location (country, region, city, time zone). But it goes further: it lists exactly what sites already read about you — browser and version, operating system, languages, processors, approximate memory, screen and window, time zone, GPU and supported APIs.

Why show all this in plain text?

Because most “fingerprint testers” give you an opaque score without teaching you anything. Here, every value is explained: where it comes from, what it reveals, and why your browser hides some of them. You concretely understand your tracking exposure, you can check the effect of a VPN, a browser change or a blocker, and you leave with a copyable report useful for IT support.

A tool honest about its limits

A static site sees neither your source port, nor your HTTP headers, nor your TLS connection: only a server can. IP-based location remains an estimate, never proof of position. And no web page can reliably detect a VPN, proxy or Tor — so-called detection methods are probabilistic and easily bypassed. Volade prefers to show “—” and explain it rather than sell certainty that does not exist.
