Choose a mode, then start the measurement. Data is sent only to the test servers (speed.cloudflare.com and speedmeter.dev): nothing goes through a Volade server.

≈ 45-60 s · Cloudflare then SpeedMeter (dual measurement)

Before starting the test:close applications that use the network (streaming, downloads, updates), use a wired connection if possible for an accurate network measurement, and keep the tab open and visible. Results vary depending on the time, server, and network load: for a reliable assessment, run three measurements and note the most consistent one. Values also depend on your equipment (router, Wi-Fi).
Transparency:the browser cannot determine everything (your plan, signal quality, the exact type of carrier connection). This test isnot local: actual transfers take place to external servers (notablyCloudflareand SpeedMeter). The IP, ASN, and geolocation information displayed are estimates from third-party public services, provided for reference only. Metrics marked with—mean "not provided" by the engine, not "zero".

Much more than a simple speedometer

    Cross-referenced dual measurement

The full mode runs the Cloudflare Speed engine first, then SpeedMeter.dev. Both results are compared line by line with the percentage difference, giving you a more reliable assessment than a single measurement.

    Latency, jitter, and bufferbloat

Beyond speed, online gaming and video conferencing depend on latency, jitter, and loaded latency (bufferbloat). Each metric is explained and interpreted when the engine provides it.

    Understanding the metrics

    History and export

Each measurement is stored locally on your device (last 30 results), with time filters. Export in one click: text copy, JSON, CSV, or PDF print for your records and your provider.

    How it works

    A test in four steps

    Start the measurement

The full test measures your connection with two engines (Cloudflare then SpeedMeter, ~45-60 s). No sign-up, no installation.

    Watch in real time

Speed rises and falls on the graph as the stages unfold: latency, download, loaded latency, upload. You can stop at any time.

    Cross-reference and interpret

Performance and stability scores, verdicts (gaming, streaming, video calls, cloud uploads), and the gap between the two engines give you a clear picture.

    Keep or export

The result is added to your local history. Copy it, export it as JSON/CSV, or print it as a PDF to compare your measurements over time.

    Understanding your results

    Every metric explained

A speed test is much more than a single number. Here is what each value means and why it matters for your everyday use.

    Download speed

The speed at which your connection receives data: it determines streaming (4K ≈ 25 Mbit/s), downloads, and browsing. It is the best-known metric in a speed test and the one where providers are most generous.

    Upload speed

The speed at which your connection sends data: it affects sending photos and videos, cloud backups, screen sharing, and the quality of your video calls. It is often much lower than the download speed.

    Latency (ping)

The round-trip response time to the test server, in milliseconds. Low (0–30 ms), it is ideal for online gaming; high latency makes browsing feel "sluggish" even with high speed. It is the key metric for competitive gaming.

    Jitter

The variation in latency between two packets: low jitter (under 10–15 ms) keeps gaming and calls smooth; high jitter causes stuttering, audio dropouts, and disconnections, even if the average latency looks fine.

    Loaded latency (bufferbloat)

Latency measured while the connection is saturated. If it spikes (e.g., 200 ms instead of 10 ms), your router is letting buffers fill up: that is bufferbloat. A low stability score reflects this. It is only measured by the Cloudflare engine.

    Packet loss

The percentage of packets that do not reach their destination: in excess, it signals a faulty network or Wi-Fi. Cloudflare measured this via a public TURN relay that is now deprecated: it may therefore be absent, and we do not present it as certain.

    Good testing conditions

    Consistent, comparable measurements

A speed test is only useful if the conditions are the same from one measurement to the next. Follow these tips before comparing your results.

    Close background traffic

Streaming, downloads, updates, background games: anything that uses the network skews the measurement. On mobile, also watch out for automatic photo backups.

    Prefer wired

Wi-Fi adds its own variability (distance, walls, interference). To test yourconnection, plug in an Ethernet cable. To test yourWi-Fi, position yourself where you actually use the network.

    Repeat at different times

A single test proves nothing: network load varies. Take three measurements at different times (evening vs. morning, for example) and note the most consistent values — the local history helps with that.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between download and upload speed?
Download speed is the rate at which your connection receives data — streaming, browsing, downloads. Upload speed is the rate at which it sends data — file transfers, cloud backups, video conferencing. Most asymmetric plans have a much lower upload than download speed.
    Why two different measurement engines?
Each service (Cloudflare Speed, SpeedMeter.dev) tests from its own servers. Depending on their location and your carrier's routing, results can vary significantly. By cross-referencing two engines, you can tell what comes from your actual connection versus what depends on the test server. The full mode runs Cloudflare then SpeedMeter and shows the percentage gap between the two.
What is latency, and why does my ping matter?
Latency (or ping) is the round-trip response time to the server, in milliseconds. It determines responsiveness: under 30 ms, online gaming is comfortable; between 60 and 100 ms, it becomes noticeable; beyond that, it becomes a penalty. Latency is measured by both engines; loaded latency only by Cloudflare.
    What is jitter?
Jitter measures the variation in latency between packets. High jitter causes stuttering in games, dropouts in video calls, and inconsistent speeds, even when the average ping looks fine. It is only provided by the Cloudflare engine; SpeedMeter does not expose it.
    What is bufferbloat?
It is the increase in latency when your connection is saturated: router queues fill up and packets have to wait longer. The result: 200 ms of latency during a download instead of 10 ms. The test compares idle latency and loaded latency to estimate this phenomenon.
Does my data go through Volade?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser: measurement data travels only between your device and the test servers (speed.cloudflare.com and speedmeter.dev). No Volade relay involved. The history is stored locally in your browser (localStorage); the displayed IP and ASN come from third-party public services (ipify, ipwho.is) and are estimates.
Why are my actual speeds lower than my plan's advertised values?
"Contractual" speed is generally the maximum speed of the link to the network node, reached under ideal conditions. Actual speed takes into account Wi-Fi, your router, distance to the server, network load, and the device itself. If your measurements are consistently and significantly below expectations, using a wired connection and testing at different times can confirm the issue before you contact your provider.
What are the performance score and stability score?
These are Volade composite scores out of 100: performance combines download speed (45%), upload speed (30%), latency (15%), and jitter (10%); stability is derived from jitter and loaded latency (bufferbloat). These are indicative benchmarks calculated in your browser, not contractual values.
Can I compare measurements over time?
Yes: every test is added to the local history (last 30), filterable by time period (today, 7 days, 30 days). You can also copy the result, download it as JSON or CSV, or print it as a PDF to keep a timestamped record you can use with your provider.
Does the test work without JavaScript?
No: a speed test measures actual transfers between the browser and the test servers, which requires JavaScript and a WebSocket connection. Without JavaScript, the page remains visible but the calculation cannot run.

Online speed test: measure your connection for real

The Volade speed tester measures your Internet connection in two stages: theCloudflare Speedengine followed by theSpeedMeter.devservice. Download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter, and loaded latency are displayed in real time on a graph, along with performance and stability scores, usage verdicts, a local history, and full result export. All without sign-up, without installation, and without going through a Volade server.

Why cross-reference two engines? Because a speed test is primarily a measurement to a server: depending on its location and your carrier's routing, two services can give different figures on the same connection. By comparing Cloudflare and SpeedMeter on the same page, you can distinguish what truly comes from your line from what depends on the test point, and see at a glance whether your results are consistent (small gap) or divergent (large gap, worth rechecking).

What the numbers really tell you

Thedownload speed(in Mbit/s) determines streaming and downloads: expect around 25 Mbit/s for 4K, 8 Mbit/s for HD, 5 Mbit/s for SD on a single screen. Theupload speedaffects file transfers, cloud services, and video conferencing. Thelatencyand thejitter, often overlooked, are essential for online gaming and calls: low but unstable latency (high jitter) can make a game unplayable even when your connection seems "fast". Finally, theloaded latencydetects bufferbloat: a line whose latency collapses as soon as it is saturated delivers a poor gaming experience, even with very high speed.

A tool that is honest about its limits

A browser cannot know everything about your connection: no access to your contract, no Wi-Fi signal quality, no carrier network data. That is why Volade clearly distinguishes what is measured (actual transfers to the test servers), what is estimated by the browser (the Network Information API), and what is provided by public services (IP, ASN). Any unavailable metric is displayed as "—" rather than zero, and scores are presented as indicative benchmarks. This transparency ensures you interpret the results without forming a false impression.

    Who can benefit?

The home user who wants to check their plan before contacting their provider, the remote worker who needs to make sure video calls will hold up, the online gamer who wants to quantify latency and jitter, the creator who regularly uploads large files to the cloud, and the professional who wants to track their connection's performance over several weeks. In every case: a few seconds of testing, clear results, and the option to export a timestamped record.
