A complete quiz maker for learning and revision

QCM and True/False

Two question types to cover every teaching need: the QCM with 2 to 6 options and a single correct answer, and True/False for quick questions. Each question accepts an optional explanation, shown after the answer to lock in the correct statement.

Create a question

Random shuffle

Turn on question and/or answer shuffling so that each attempt presents the quiz differently. Ideal for revising several times without memorising the order of the options. The draw is local and random at every launch.

Enable shuffling

Timer and pass threshold

Set a maximum duration in seconds to time the quiz, and a pass threshold as a percentage (50% by default). The final verdict shows "Passed" or "Failed" according to the scale you defined — perfect for simulating an exam.

Set the timer

JSON export and import

Save your entire quiz — title, description, options, questions, answers and explanations — to a JSON file. Re-import it later to edit, replay or share it. Ideal for building a reusable question bank.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about online quizzes

How do I create an online quiz with this tool?
Add questions one by one: type the statement, choose the type (multiple choice or True/False), enter the options, then tick the correct answer. You can add an optional explanation to each question. Then set the options (shuffling, timer, threshold) and click "Start the quiz" to test it right away.
What question types are supported?
Two families: the QCM (multiple choice) with 2 to 6 options and a single correct answer, and True/False. Multiple choice requires one unique correct answer, which guarantees an unambiguous score. The generator checks that at least one question and one correct answer exist before starting the quiz.
Can I shuffle the questions and answers?
Yes, independently. The "Shuffle questions" option reorders the display at every launch, and "Shuffle answers" repositions the options within each question. Shuffling is random and local: ideal for avoiding rote memorisation when taking the same quiz repeatedly.
How does the quiz timer work?
Enter a maximum duration in seconds (0 to remove it). The countdown starts when the quiz launches and runs for the whole quiz. If it expires before the end, the session stops and the partial score is converted into a result. Perfect for simulating exam pressure or timing a revision session.
How are the score and the pass threshold calculated?
Each correct question is worth 1 point, each wrong or unanswered question is worth 0. The displayed percentage is the ratio between the points earned and the total number of questions. The pass threshold (as a percentage, adjustable) determines whether the final verdict shows "Passed" or "Failed": useful for setting a passing mark at 50%, 70% or any other scale.
What happens to my quiz: is it private?
Everything stays in your browser. The current quiz is stored in localStorage on your device and is never sent to a server. JSON export produces a local text file that you can save or share yourself. No account, no sign-up, no data transmitted.
Can I export and reuse my quizzes?
Yes. "Export JSON" copies the complete quiz structure (title, description, options, questions, answers and explanations) to the clipboard and offers a file download. "Import JSON" accepts the same format to reload a saved quiz, edit it or replay it. Ideal for building a reusable question bank.
Is the tool private and free?
Yes: creating and taking the quiz happens entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored outside your device (except your quizzes and options in localStorage, for your convenience). The tool is completely free, unlimited and accessible without an account, on desktop as well as mobile.
Complete guide

Everything you need to know about online quizzes

A quiz is a short questionnaire that assesses the knowledge or skills of the person taking it. Used in training, school revision, corporate onboarding or classroom activities, it turns passive content into an active exercise — significantly improving retention. The quiz maker of Volade lets you create custom quizzes in a few clicks, with no platform, no account and no data sent whatsoever.

Choosing the question type

The QCM (multiple choice) is the most versatile format: it tests the recognition of a correct answer among several options, which closely mimics official exams and certifications. True/False is faster, ideal for validating obvious facts or key principles. Alternating between the two keeps attention high and covers both fine-grained understanding and overall checking.

Writing good questions

An effective question is concise, unambiguous and built around a single concept. Avoid trick questions based on convoluted wording: prefer plausible options of comparable length. The tool's optional explanation is a powerful teaching lever — it turns every mistake into immediate learning rather than a mere score.

Shuffling, anonymity and anti-cheating

Shuffling questions and answers makes every attempt different, which discourages memorising the order and lets you reuse the same quiz several times. Combined with the timer, it provides a simple basis for assessment control without technical complexity.

Scoring and pass threshold

Set an explicit pass threshold: 50% for a lenient pass, 70% or 80% for a stricter certification. The displayed percentage is always the ratio between the correct answers and the total number of questions, which guarantees a transparent calculation that is easy for the learner to understand.

Reuse and question bank

JSON export saves your entire quiz so you can keep it, share it or version it. You can thus build a reusable question bank: edit, add or remove questions from one attempt to the next, and keep a history of your assessments. To round out your teaching toolkit, the meta tag generator prepares the SEO of your course pages, and the word counter tunes the length of your revision content.
