Type “1-5, 8, 10-14”: each range becomes an independent PDF. Ideal for isolating a bank slip, the signed pages of a contract or part of a file.

Respect a maximum size

Invoices & receipts

One invoice = one PDF. Use “One page per file” for single-page invoices, or smart detection for bundles where invoices span several pages.

Contracts & scanned files

Extract only the signed pages with “By ranges”, or isolate the appendices with bookmarks. Blank pages from the scan can be removed automatically.

Email attachments

Gmail caps at 25 MB, Outlook at 20 MB, government portals at 4-10 MB. “By max size” cuts your PDF to fit each limit without risk of rejection.

How do I split a PDF into multiple files for free?

Do my files leave my device?

No. Like all Volade web tools, the PDF splitter runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or analyzed by our servers: complete privacy, even for the most sensitive invoices, contracts and statements.

How do I extract one or more pages from a PDF?

Choose the “By ranges” mode and type for example “1-5, 8, 10-14”: each range becomes an independent PDF. You can also use the “Visual extraction” mode: click directly on the thumbnails of the pages you want, then run the extraction, with the option to keep the remaining pages in a second PDF.

How do I split a very large PDF to send it by email?

Use the “By max size” mode. Choose your mail service limit (5 MB for tax filings, 10 MB for Gmail, 20 MB for Outlook…): the tool automatically measures each output and places the cuts to stay under the limit. Ideal for attachments rejected by government portals.

Can I split a PDF according to its bookmarks?

Yes. Click “Analyze bookmarks”: if your document is structured (reports, books, files), Volade lists the top-level bookmarks and turns each one into a separate PDF — Introduction.pdf, Part-1.pdf, Appendices.pdf, etc. A Premium option.

Does the splitter detect documents inside a scanned bundle?

With “Smart detection” (Premium), the tool analyzes the content — blank pages, invoice numbers, repeated titles, page breaks — and suggests an automatic split, document by document. You only have to validate, then create the detected PDFs.

Is there a page or size limit?

The free version processes one PDF at a time with up to 20 output files. Premium multiplies the possibilities: several PDFs in one batch and unlimited outputs, for very large documents. The only real limit is your browser memory.

Is the quality of my pages preserved?

Yes. Volade splits at the page level without re-encoding the content: the text stays selectable, the images keep their resolution and each page is grouped as-is in its new PDF. You can even deactivate the optimization for an identical copy.

Is it really free?

Yes. The free version splits your PDFs by ranges, one page per file, every X pages or by extraction, with preview and ZIP, without an account or registration. Premium adds multi-PDF, unlimited outputs, splitting by bookmarks and smart detection. See the pricing.

What happens if my PDF is password-protected?

The tool warns you immediately if your document is encrypted and cannot be split in this state. If you are allowed to do so, you can remove the protection with a dedicated tool before coming back to split your file.

Can I cancel or clear everything at any time?

Yes. A “Deselect all” button lets you start over at the page level, and “Clear results” removes the generated PDFs. No file is stored on our servers: there is nothing else to delete after your session.
