Everything you need to plan ahead for a flight

From the estimated duration to the destination's local time, every detail helps you prepare your trip.

Local arrival time

The arrival is converted to the destination time zone, with the exact day and any day change: no more confusing departure time with arrival time.

How it works

Three fields, one arrival time

No sign-up: the estimate appears as soon as both airports are recognized.

1

Pick the two airports

Type the city name (Paris, Tokyo) or the IATA code (CDG, HND). The recognized airport appears below the field, with its code.

2

Enter the departure date and time

The time you enter is the departure airport's local time. The tool handles the rest, daylight and standard time included.

3

Read the arrival time

Estimated duration, local time at destination, time zone offset and arrival day: everything is shown at a glance, copyable in one click.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about flight duration estimates and time zones.

How is the arrival time calculated?

The tool measures the great-circle distance between the two airports (haversine formula on their coordinates), estimates it at an average speed of about 800 km/h, adds about 40 minutes of taxiing, climb and descent, then converts the arrival to the destination time zone, taking daylight and standard time into account.

Does the calculation include layovers?

No: the calculator estimates a direct flight between departure and arrival. For a trip with a layover, add up the duration of each segment and the ground time.

Why an estimate rather than an exact time?

The actual duration depends on the wind (jet stream), the route chosen by air traffic control, queues and weather. The estimate gives the trend: airlines publish durations very close to this model for direct flights.

How is the time zone offset handled?

Each airport is linked to an IANA time zone (Europe/Paris, America/New_York…). The browser automatically applies the correct daylight and standard time for your flight date, with no manual setting.

What does ‘+1 day’ mean in the result?

The flight crosses midnight: this is typically the case for eastbound flights (Tokyo, Seoul…) or some long-haul flights that take off in the evening and arrive the next morning, local time.

Does the tool work offline?

Yes: the 130 airports and all calculations are embedded in the page. Once the page is loaded, everything runs in your browser, with no data sent and no account.

Which airports are covered?

Major hubs across the six continents: Europe, North and South America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania. Search by city name or IATA code (CDG, JFK, DXB…), accents ignored.

Can I calculate a multi-segment itinerary?

Use the calculator segment by segment: enter each pair of airports with the local departure time of each flight, then add up the displayed durations to get the total door-to-door time.

Guide

Calculate a flight time like a pro

A few tips to read the estimate and make the most of it.

Knowing your flight duration before booking lets you compare connections, plan transport from the arrival airport and avoid time zone surprises. This calculator combines two pieces of information: the real distance between the airports and the time zone of each end for the exact date of the trip.

The distance is calculated as the great-circle distance: the shortest path between two points on Earth's surface, the one an aircraft follows at cruise altitude. Actual routes deviate slightly from it (storm zones, air corridors, jet stream), hence a margin of a few tens of minutes on very long-haul flights. The model uses an average speed of about 800 km/h, which accounts for climb and descent, and adds about forty minutes of taxiing on the ground.

The time zone offset is the trickiest part of an arrival calculation: between Paris and New York, the gap varies with the season (daylight saving time). The tool relies on your browser's IANA time zones, up to date and automatic, to display the destination's local time and indicate whether the flight arrives the same day, the next day (+1 day) or, more rarely, the previous day (-1 day) after a very long westbound flight.

For a trip with a layover, calculate each segment separately by entering the local departure time of each flight, then add up the durations and refer to the last airport's time zone. With these tips, no arrival time will ever catch you off guard.
