A complete calculator, from school to research

From addition to parametric curves, everything is brought together in a single unified calculation engine.

Full expressions

Operator precedence, nested parentheses, powers, roots, factorials, percentages and scientific notation power the engine. The exact result (fraction, radical) is displayed alongside the decimal value and the approximation.

Try an expression

Extended engine

Fractions, matrices, vectors, complex numbers, probability, statistics, number bases, congruences and number theory: everything combines freely in a single expression.

Discover the functions

Total privacy

No calculation, no input and no history ever leaves your device: the engine runs entirely in the browser, even offline, with a Web Worker for heavy computations.

How it works

Calculate in three steps

No installation, no sign-up: just a calculation engine ready to use.

Type

Type freely (2+3×4, sqrt(2), sin(30°)) or use the calculator keys. Syntax highlighting and autocomplete guide you.

Get the result

The calculation updates in real time: exact value, configurable decimal and approximation — all shown simultaneously.

Reuse

The full history is kept locally: reuse the last result (Ans), pin your favourite calculations, define variables and share an expression by URL.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the calculator

Everything you want to know before getting started.

How do I type an expression with parentheses?

Just write as you would on paper: (2+3)×(4−1) or (a+b)^2. Operator precedence is respected and parentheses can be nested freely. If you forget a parenthesis, the tool flags the error and offers to fix it.

Why do I see “exact” and “decimal” at the same time?

The engine calculates symbolically whenever possible: 4/6 gives 2/3, sqrt(2) stays √2, sin(30°) gives 1/2. The decimal value and the approximation are displayed alongside. You control the number of decimals.

How do I retrieve a previous result?

History is kept locally even after you close the tab. Click a calculation to reload it, use the Ans variable to resume the last result, pin your favourites, search through history or duplicate a calculation to edit it.

Can I define my own variables and functions?

Yes. Type def("a", 12) for a variable, f(x)=x^2 for a function, then use them anywhere: 2*a+f(3). Variables persist locally and can be reused across calculations, tabs and sessions.

Does the calculator work offline?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser: no connection is needed and you can install the calculator as an app (PWA). Your data stays on your device and nothing is sent to a server.

Which angle units are supported?

All three: degrees (DEG), radians (RAD) and gradians (GRAD), selectable in the options bar. You can also write sin(30°): the ° symbol forces degrees, while rad(π/2) converts explicitly.

How do I plot a function's graph?

Switch to “Advanced” mode then use the graph panel: enter f(x)=sin(x) or x^2, plot, zoom with the wheel and drag to pan. Two functions can be overlaid and you can locate roots, intersections, maxima and minima.

Is it really free with no sign-up?

Yes, unlimited and no account needed. The calculator is a free offering of the Volade ecosystem. Premium is only there to unlock the full set of tools (browser, CMS, desktop, mobile, scripts and API) and cloud sync.

How do I share a calculation?

Copy the expression (Ctrl+C) or share it by URL: the ?q= parameter preloads the expression for your recipient. You can also export history as JSON, print the result or export it as PDF, image, LaTeX or MathML.

Can I solve equations like x²−4 = 0?

Yes: solve(x^2-4=0) returns the exact solutions {-2 ; 2} and their approximations. The solver handles polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric equations, as well as linear systems with up to three unknowns, with automatic verification.

How do I convert units?

Use conv(value, 'unit1', 'unit2'): for example conv(5,'km','mi'), conv(20,'°C','°F') or conv(1,'h','s'). Dimensions are checked automatically and the tool suggests compatible units (length, mass, time, area, volume, speed, force, energy, power, pressure, temperature, angle, frequency, electricity and more).

What does “BigInt” / high precision mean?

It's the arbitrary precision engine for integers: factorisation, primality, large powers and factorials run without any loss of precision, even on numbers several thousand digits long. Floating-point (decimal) calculation remains handled separately with your decimal setting.

100% local calculator: your data never leaves your computer

Unlike classic online calculators, no calculation is ever transmitted: the math engine runs in your browser, with a Web Worker for heavy operations without freezing the interface. You can then use it on sensitive data (notes, quotes, salaries) with complete peace of mind, even in airplane mode.

History, variables, favourites and settings are stored locally (localStorage) and exportable: backup, restore, UTF-8 zipped JSON import/export. The Volade Premium licence adds optional cloud sync that is encrypted, self-contained and independent of the tool.
